Remington 870 Express Red Dot sight?

Post by Tjamesd »

I have a Remington 870 Express used for slug deer hunting. Any recommendations on a Red Dot sight to use with the 870 Express?
Also, any reliable saddle mounts to use as well?

Appreciate any input.

For a red dot, look at the Vortex Venom or the Burris Fastfire 3.
For a saddle mount, the TacStar or Mesa Tactical options are solid and hold zero well.

For deer hunting with the 870 Express, the Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 https://gritroutdoors.com/burris-fullfield-ii-4-5-14x42mm-riflescope-200183 is an excellent choice — especially if you're shooting at 75+ yards. Its Ballistic Plex reticle is great for bullet drop compensation, and the sealed design handles rain without issue.

But if you’re looking specifically for a red dot (for closer ranges or fast shots), my Holosun 507C has held zero through 200+ rounds of magnum slugs. For mounting, I recommend the Mesa Tactical Urbino mount—it’s more rigid than the TacStar and aligns well with the barrel.

I also run an 870 Express for slug hunting. For red dots, I’ve had great luck with the Holosun 510C—fast target acquisition and durable. For a saddle mount, Mesa Tactical has been rock solid for me, no shifting even after heavy recoil.
My quest log is full, stickman hook but my to-do list is empty.

Hi Tjamesd,

Good question. For a Remington 870 Express used in slug hunting, here are a few red dot sights and mounting setup ideas:

Red Dot Suggestions:

Aimpoint PRO – Very rugged, reliable, and great battery life.

Trijicon MRO – Wide field of view and built for tough use.

Holosun HS503CU – More budget-friendly, solar-assisted plus battery backup, and pretty durable.

Mounting Options:

Saddle Mounts:

Mesa Tactical 870 Side-Saddle Rail – Provides a solid rail for mounting optics.

Volquartsen Picatinny Side Rail – Lightweight and strong.

Mesa Tactical Scout Sidewinder Mount – For a more elevated mount if you want a more comfortable cheek weld.

Make sure when choosing mounts that they are compatible with both your 870 Express model and the red dot you pick. Also, zero your sight at a reasonable slug hunting distance to make it practical for your typical shots.

Good luck, and happy hunting!
