870P Marine
870P Marine
New to this forum and looking for insights from experienced 870P owners. What is the assessment of the quality of build of the new (2022 or 2023) 870 Police Marine Magnum (#25047), and how do they compare to the build quality of pre-bankruptcy models? I have read older comments about the high quality of 870P Marine builds from many years ago. Also, the new 870P Marine models are roll marked with “Remington 870 Magnum”. “Police” and “Marine” are not part of roll mark. Does anyone know the reason for the change to the current roll mark wording? Thank you

Build Quality:
Pre-Bankruptcy (Generally 1900s-2007): These Remingtons are widely known for their exceptional build quality, featuring machined steel components and a reputation for durability and reliability.
New Remington (Post-Bankruptcy 2007 onwards): The quality can vary somewhat compared to pre-bankruptcy models. Some users report good experiences with new Remingtons, while others have encountered issues with fit and finish, or the use of MIM (Metal Injection Molding) for certain parts. MIM parts can be less durable than traditionally machined components.
Specific to the 870P Marine Magnum (#25047):
Limited Information: Unfortunately, there aren't many user reviews or long-term reports available yet specifically for the new 870P Marine Magnum (#25047) model.
Potential Considerations: Since it's a newer model, it's difficult to say definitively how its quality compares to pre-bankruptcy models over time. It's advisable to do some research online and look for reviews from reputable sources that might shed light on user experiences with this specific model.
Roll Mark Changes:
Possible Reasons: The reasons for the change in roll mark wording from "Remington 870 Police Marine Magnum" to just "Remington 870 Magnum" are not officially confirmed by Remington. Here are some possibilities:
Marketing Strategy: It could be a simpler marketing approach, focusing on the core "Remington 870 Magnum" brand recognition.
Legal Considerations: There might be legal reasons related to trademarking or product liability that influenced the change.
Recommendations:
Inspect Before You Buy: If you're considering a new 870P Marine Magnum, it's highly recommended to thoroughly inspect it at a reputable gun store before purchasing. Check for proper fit and finish, smooth action, and no visible defects.
Consider Pre-Bankruptcy Models: If you prioritize the legendary build quality of pre-bankruptcy Remingtons, you might consider looking for a used model in good condition. However, be sure to have it inspected by a qualified gunsmith before purchase.
Online Resources: Search online forums and communities dedicated to shotguns and firearms. Look for discussions on the new 870P Marine Magnum and see if any users share their experiences.
By considering these points and doing your research, you can make an informed decision about whether a new 870P Marine Magnum (#25047) is the right choice for you.
