Hey everyone, Rich here.
Last year I purchased a used older 870 Wingmaster, I love it. I've taken it out for grousse a couple of times and did a lot of research on it. There was a bunch of confusion after my purchase because the person I bought it from said I couldn't shoot steel out of it cause it was a fixed full choke (I originally bought it for an all around shotgun for ducks, geese, other game birds and recently going to try out coyotes with it). I made a call to the closest gunsmith in my area after find a MOD stamp next to the FULL stamp on the barrel, after inquiring with him he said "drop a dime down the barrel, if it goes all the way through then she's been drilled out" I did it and it worked, his response "well there you go! shoot whatever you want through that barrel, you're good to go!). Since then, I've shot steel shot and lead shot through it with no bulging, however, I haven't taken it out for ducks, geese or coyotes yet and I'm wondering, if it is older steel, will it take the abuse of continuous shots with steel shot. Hope to get a response to this post letting me know where I can post this inquiry on this thread, including pictures of the numerous stamps on the barrel of my 870 wingmaster.
Thank you everyone in advance, hope to hear from you guys soon.
Cheers!
