Remington Button safety

Post by pumpingpower »

Dont start flaming me for wanting to do this, as im sure others have tried.

I want to completely remove the button safety on my standard 870 trigger group. Im left handed, my finger is nowhere near the trigger unless in ready to shoot, nothing is chambered unless im ready to shoot. YOU are the safety. not a stupid piece of plastic. Ive seen a couple people trust that the safety was on and accidentally discharge a gun.

Now that ive defended myself, will removing the button safety affect the trigger group? the only problem i see is that there will be a hole where something should be. but i dont care. Im a function over looks person.

removing the safety will not affect the gun in any way.

I believe the trigger will function normally without a safety button installed, but that leaves a pretty good gap for crap to get in there and screw things up or keep the trigger from operating properly. It'll also be a fun thing to try to explain to a jury if you ever have to defend yourself with your shotgun. You might be better off just installing a left-handed safety button and keeping it off if desired, or shortening your current button (which I believe is metal, not plastic) so that nothing sticks out when it's in the fire position.

If you cut/grind the safety down on the left side, and replace the safety switch spring with a piece of pin stock to lock it in the fire position, you'll have a safety-less trigger plate assembly without the issues of leaving a hole there, and you can easily convert it back to normal if you ever need or want to. If you don't want a safety switch on your gun, I think this would be a better way to go about it than just removing the switch entirely.

120 - 150 degrees C shouldn't hurt your gun at all. I gave more detail in your other thread.

For less that $20 you could toss a left handed safety in.
