Hi from Utah

Post by rovermech »

Long time gun owner and remington fan. Just picked up a 870 express magnum absolutely beautiful condition. I do have a question though....was looking at the barrel to check the date code and the letters are CYL....3 letters not 2.

Welcome to the forum.

Some years have two-letter codes, which would make for a 3-letter date stamp when combined with the month letter; but those years use double-letters like XX or YY.

I don't think what you're talking about is actually a date stamp. The "CYL" probably indicates that the barrel has a fixed cylinder bore, with no choke. I have an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel, and it's stamped "CYL" on the side.

Hello, and welcome/ Howdy from a member in Texas!

I'm organizing a bicycle tour hereabouts to celebrate the Thurdsay 5 December 1933 repeal of Prohibition. Our first toast will be at precisely 6:32pm to honor your state's passage of the 21st Amendment!

Enjoy your 870 (Responsibly.) ;)
