Greetings from the Pac. NW

Howdy all. Just picked up my first shotgun....a police trade-in Remington 870 Police Magnum. Date code on the barrel is LR. Have yet to sort out the receiver SN. Anyway, it's a 20" rifle sight IC barrel. Will probably drop an 18" barrel on it and go from there.

Assuming the barrel is original with the receiver, I'm dating this 870 Police Mag as February,1997. It does have the new style flex-tab shell carrier. I'll probably inquire with Remington on the receiver SN to see if it does match the barrel for manufacture date.

This is going to be a fun project. Thinking of changing out the stock to either a Magpul SGA or a Mesa Tactical Urbino. I think the length of pull on the current synthetic stock is about 13-3/4". I'm thinking I would like to shorten that just slightly. Not sure what the LOP is on these after market stocks; but, as I'm new to shotguns, I'll figure it out eventually. I'll probably swap in an 18" barrel and a 2-shot mag extension, and figure out what type of sights I'd like. Sort of leaning toward a ghost ring setup. It will probably also get a Mesa Tactical side saddle. I'm pretty sure a 6-shot saddle will fit with the current for-end, as there is minimal overhang of the forend over the receiver.

She's a beauty for certain, SignessSG.

Mesa Tactical 6 shot will fit with your current forend. I have one on my 870 Tactical although I did opt for the saddle with the rail on top as it bolts from both sides of the receiver instead of just the left side. It's a much more solid mount from an engineering standpoint. I picked it up from Amazon for a little over a hundred dollars I think.
