Mossberg heatshield on Remington?

Post by Benjammin »

Has anyone used a Mossberg heatshield on their 870? I've heard they are compatible, but havent found much evidence online. I'm not too familiar with Mossbergs, I can imagine the barrel dimensions are similar, but I dont know about the dimensions of the forend

I don't know for sure on that question, however there are several "universal" Heat Shields out there. That means it will probably fit with some modification. I've literally never heard of anyone using a Mossy Heat Shield on an 870. I've owned both guns (i do prefer the 870), and there are differences in the barrel/mag configurations. Tactstar makes a heat shield for the Rem 870 thats made of steel, i've considered that for my shotgun. I think you'll have problems and end up scratching your barrel trying to put a Mossberg H.S. on an 870. I've looked around for one myself, and they don't have as many out there as used to be, slim pickings you might say. ATI makes a couple heat shields for the 870, but get bad reviews and scratch your barrel up trying to install them. Sorry i can't help more, but myself, i've given up on the idea of a heat shield for my 870.

thanks for your input, I think I've given up on the idea too, haha. I figured if they were as compatible as I'd heard, it would be more common, but no replies, and no search hits. Oh well, I don't really need a heatshield I guess
