Okay, have been a fan of the 870 for a long, long time, but my area of interest is more in trap shooting than action sports, 3-gun, etc. So I picked up a gently used Remington 1100. Right off the bat I can tell you (a) vintage Remington is a story of it's own, and Big Green was so smart to make many parts assemblies "common", and (b) the semi-auto lure for recoil reduction is a fact. I have a PFS stock on my Beretta 682 that almost eliminates recoil, but the action isn't as heavy as an 1100 and you actually lose some weight removing the butt-stock on the Beretta. I added a Carlson's shell catcher to catch ejected hulls (the bane of the semi-auto on the trap line), but have not learned the appropriate dance for doubles with that respect.
Pics in a bit, it's nothing special. 30" low-rib fixed-MOD choke, standard wood that needs some touch up and a previous owner engraved his name in the trigger guard (at least it's the metal trigger guard, so I can resurface that). It won't be my main trap gun, but if the Beretta is ever off for a tune-up, it'll serve me fine in it's absence.

I have two 1100's and love them both. One is traditional wood and blued. Gorgeous furniture. The other is all tac'd out. Lightweight, gentle recoil and has NEVER failed me. I got my two 870's on the cheap and you've read about my projects. The 1100 tacticool has been bitchin' right of of the box. Have a few thousand rounds through it now. Goes boom every time and it eats what ever I can find for cheap. I keep it loaded with Buck-n-Ball and 00 buck in my safe.
