Wow, that is beautiful - Did you treat the wood somehow or was that how it came? My 870P's finish isn't nearly as dark. I like that.

I got the police stocks off ebay. They were dark when they came in the mail and I like the color too.

I got the shotgun in '94 in a trade for a wedding band that I no longer needed. A few weeks ago I got the bug for a tactical shotgun so I ordered a 18.5" Mossberg barrel but after I put it on I didn't like the looks of it. Found another 26" barrel on a forum and we traded even. I cut the barrel to 18.25" added a Tacstar +2 mag extension, Nordic barrel clamp, and magnetic FO front sight. I also got the Hogue stocks, as seen above, but I like the wood police stocks better.

tjmorales, nice setup, I really like the EOtech IFL and BlackHawk Knoxx Stock combo, looks like they were made for each other.

Kentactic, simple and effective. I still think that Hogue stocks are one of the best variants for home defense shotgun.

After shooting 870 Wingmaster bird guns for 53+ years, I finally got around to building a home defense 870. Used the receiver from my June 1950 first year production 12 gauge 870AP. Installed a Remington 18 inch smooth bore barrel, Choate Plus 2 mag extension, and a Butler Creek folding stock.

After the photo I added a TacStar 6-round ammo saddle on the left side of the receiver, and a Vero Vellini wide top sling. Also added some foam tubing to the top metal rod of the folding stock. That way if it contacts my chin during recoil, it won't hurt so much! I'm shooting Winchester 2 3/4 inch #1 buckshot, and Federal 2 3/4 inch, 1 oz rifled lead hollow point slugs.

Recently I disassembled the gun and gave the receiver to my gunsmith for Duracoating. He bead blasted the receiver first to give it a "matt" finish. Then he will use "H & K Black" for the color.

I've been looking on the Internet for a LED light forend. Haven't decided on Surfire or Insight/EOTech. The only limiting factor is the length of the forend at the rear. With both the TacStar ammo saddle and Butler Creek folding stock installed, the forend can't extend too far past the front of the receiver when the action is opened and the forend is all the way to the rear. If the forend extends too far back, like the forend on a "new model" Wingmaster, it will contact both the ammo saddle and folded stock rubber butt plate. The instructions that came with both the ammo saddle and folding stock says that they can only be used with the short "ribbed or corncob" style forends. The forend in this photo is the original 1950 forend that came on the 870AP model.

If anyone else has experience in these forends and how far back they extend, I would appreciate your input before I purchase one and have to send it back because it extends too far to the rear. I emailed Surfire, but haven't received a reply.

I'm also getting ready to purchase a ATN 2nd generation night vision riflescope for my AR-15 M3 carbine. It currently has a EOTech 512 holographic red dot sight installed. I will be removing that EOTech red dot from the AR-15 and could possibly install it on my 870 home defense gun.
