I have an early model 870 20 gauge wingmaster and I am looking for a mod choke barrel and am not having any luck. I thought I did my research correctly and purchased a 28” vented barrel that as it turns out doesn’t fit because the I.D. of the barrel ring is 7/8” and my magazine O.D. Is 1”. Can anyone help me find a barrel that will fit
Thank you

						870 barrel confusion?
Re: 870 barrel confusion?
I think you have a 12 gauge. The magazine tubes of my 12 gauges are all right at 1in, and my 20 gauge mag tube is 0.85in.

You are correct it sounds like you have an early 20ga Wingmaster but you bought a barrel for a later 20ga. You need to find an older barrel that fits your older style 20ga.

I stand corrected. Did a little research and it appears the older 20 gauge mag tubes were the same outside diameter as 12 gauge. Learn something new every day.

Im not aware of barrels being made for large frame 20 gauge anymore. They are sweet old guns so might be worth having screw-in chokes installed.
I have a super clean large frame 20. Got it for my kids, but instead I think I'll sell it and get them started on 12 ga with 7/8 oz loads I put together for them. Its the only 20 ga I own so rather stick with 12 for everyone.
