Newbie

Post by BenM »

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased my Remington 870 20ga after trying to locate one for almost a year. Found it right under my nose at my local gun store. The price was as competitive as online prices for new.
I already own a Smith & Wesson Model 1000 12ga along with various pistols, rifles and handguns.
Here, I hope to learn and enjoy my new shotgun.
I am not new to the shooting sports. My father had me hunting with him starting when I turned 7 yrs old. He figured I was old enough to handle an Iver-Johnson 28ga dogleg. We hunted ducks, rabbits, squirrel and sometimes deer. My father owned a Winchester Model 50 12ga which I had hoped to inherit but, a house fire ended that dream.
I reload for pistols and handguns in .38 special, .357 magnum, .45 ACP and .44 magnum. Don't know if I want to get into shotgun reloading.

Well, that's about it. Don't want to bore the hell out of you guys and gals.

Welcome to the forum.

If you do a lot of shooting, or use your scattergun for several different applications, reloading can be very much worth it. For the same price as (or less than) the cheapo Wal-Mart target loads, you can easily put together premium-quality, custom-tailored shells for target shooting, bird & small-game hunting, even buckshot & slugs. You get far more load options than you would if you only shot commercial ammo; shot size, shot type, payload weight, velocity - everything can be tuned to exactly what you want. If you keep an eye on Craigslist & other local classifieds, you can probably find a used MEC single-stage & enough other tools to get started for under $100.
