Hi, just purchased an 870 express in 20 gauge. Mainly for use for hunting upland birds (Ruffed grouse) and potentially deer, since shot will normally be no further than 50 yards. I purchased mine with wood furniture...is anyone aware of wood pistol grips being available?

Hi and welcome to the forum! What ammunition do you use for hunting? Do you use chokes?

My old shotgun was a cooey single shot without a choke. I'm thinking I may use an improved choke as I may shoot, on occasion, slugs (any suggestions on Choke that will work well for both shot and slugs?). As for upland birds normally a 3" 6 - 7.5 shot is what I like to use. Where I normally hunt in Canada the brush can be fairly dense so the 3" helps ensure the shot gets there.

An IC choke generally does well with typical smoothbore slugs. There are a lot of different slug designs out there though, and some can be eccentric. Your Express should have interchangeable choke tubes, so you can experiment and see what works best for you. There's also no reason you couldn't switch chokes for different game or environments, unless you hunt birds & deer at the same time.

Both Deer and Upland bird season run at the same time, and I do have removable chokes. The gun is brand new. Sync - I've watched your videos on the 870, very well done... :D
