Discuss all accessories and upgrades available for the Remington 870 shotgun: stocks, forends, barrels, chokes, magazine extensions, followers, safeties, sights etc.
I put the AFG on my 870. It is sure a different feel, but i put 20 rds through it with it installed and it felt pretty good, overall. I need to put in more trigger time with this on my gun to be sure i want to keep it. I does what i wanted though, it keeps my light from making unwanted contact with my hand. I can however manipulate the light's on and off switches easily. Not too bad. Mine doesn't feel off center or awkward at all.
I wanted to update and add a couple of things about using the AFG2 on an 870. It does work and handle fine. It does keep your hand from making possible contact with a forend mounted light, although not a necessity. I tried the magpul cantilever rail for my light, and had plenty of room without using the AFG. I relocated my light forward using a CDM BMT mount/rail, and i just prefer the feel and function without the AFG. What i felt (after some trigger time) was that the AFG does enhance a quick "point and shoot scenario"; it seems like you just have more quick control for that ( for me anyway).
I just like the feel and control with my hand on the forend itself better. Overall, it's pretty cool and can be useful for a couple reasons, but it's not a necessary upgrade; so that's just my opinion though. I can see this AFG more useful on an AR-15/Carbine for a better forward grip and feel of control. These are just my opinions about the AFG2 on a shotgun. Everybody has different preferences and likes.
Well I took mine off when I got the SGA Magpul butt stock. The AFG seemed to work and feel better with the pistol grip and adjustable butt stock setup instead of the Magpul SGA setup. I love the feel of the Magpul SGA butt stock and this is what I did instead. I like the way this rubberized grip tape I found at my local hardware store, I got 12" wide by 24" long piece of this for $2.15. I measured and cut out my own patterns on both sides of the hand held grip area and one large strip on the forend. Use my heat gun to heat it up and form it to the grip and the forend. Was looking for black but all they had was this grey color, I don't think it looks to bad.
