I recently purchased a PGO 870 from my local gun store, it has yet to arrive though so I dont actually have it in hand, yet.
If anyone knows where I can get a +1 extension for under $40 I would love to hear it. The only ones I can seem to find are the vangcomp offerings and they're a bit pricy for me.
Secondly, for anyone that know 870s well, the Remington "81191" 870 offering comes with a factory +2 extension.
Will this require any special tools to remove, or should it be as simple as getting the magazine cap off of a basic 870?
If I want to replace this with a basic magazine cap, will I need to get a shorter magazine spring?
I'm assuming compressing the one that it comes with, to around half it's normal length might be a bad idea, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Is there any reason I could not just cut the included spring at the 2/3 point and use it anyway?
All responses and any help therein would be much appreciated.

Re: A few questions about magazine tubes and springs
Like Malpaso, I'd recommend one of the Wilson Combat +1 extensions. I find them to be better-designed and -built than the Vang Comps, they come with a reliable follower and spring that work well with the extension, and you have a variety of sling attachment options to choose from. For $45, it's an excellent value.dark2023 wrote:If anyone knows where I can get a +1 extension for under $40 I would love to hear it. The factory magazine extensions aren't as simple as magazine caps, but they're not too complicated. The only tool you should need is a normal flathead screwdriver. You can see the exact steps for removal in my take-down video.dark2023 wrote:Secondly, for anyone that know 870s well, the Remington "81191" 870 offering comes with a factory +2 extension.

You should order a standard 4-round magazine spring if you plan on replacing the extension with a cap. You can use an extension spring with a magazine cap in a pinch, but it'll be overly-stiff for that configuration and take up a lot of space in the tube unless you chop it to a more appropriate length. The 4-round magazine springs don't cost much, and then you'll still have your extension spring intact if you ever want to reinstall or sell the factory extension.dark2023 wrote:If I want to replace this with a basic magazine cap, will I need to get a shorter magazine spring?
