ATI Halo heat shield

I just bought one of these on amazon, and it will arrive later this week. When I put a few rounds through my barrel it gets too hot to touch (which I consistently manage to do). Does anyone have one, and if so do you have any tips on use or installing it?

It is also called a Remington Standard V-Block Heatshield.

That isn't going to happen, I accidentally do it all the time picking it up or while it is laying down. Thanks for your input though.

I don't own one, but i've read many reviews and seen pics of it installed and not installed. I know it comes with v-block type mounting points and silicone pads so you don't scratch the barrel. Installation looks very simple. If you want a heatshield for an 870, thats probably the best choice. The only reason i did'nt get one, is that it sets too high, and seems like it would impede the use of the front sight. I guess though, theres not much to choose from for heatshields (for 870's) that don't scratch the hell out of your barrel, so if you really want one, you're probably getting the best one available.

Here it is after some dremel work to make it work with my mesa tactical sureshot and elzetta flashlight mount. Going to have to do a little more work next week on it when I get my new rifle site barrel in the mail, as the Heatshield makes the bead site worthless.

It actually looks pretty good on your shotgun, but i figured it would'nt let you use your Bead sight. The Magpul stock looks good too. Trial and error is a bitch, and costs money too. I'm sure you'll get it set up the way you want, and is still is functional. Good luck.

Should have just done the Mesa tactical 20" rail/ heat shield/barrel clamp/6 shot sure saddle. Another great product from Mesa CNC machined from billet aluminum. Installs fairly easily and is extremely secure. From what if experienced so far I see me having no trouble with any if its features no matter how hard I run it. Only downside is takedown time for cleaning etc... GOOD THING IT'S AN 870!!!

I thought about the top rail like that, but didn't like the way it made the gun look (personal preference, not saying anything about yours).

I like the Mesa 20" Rail/Heatshield and Sidesaddle combo. It would give you your heatshield, and the Mesa 20" Rail (pictured in JBall's Photo) also comes with an 8 rd sidesaddle option. You could then get rid of your extra 4 rd shellholder and get a more steamlined and functional setup. That would solve your going a long way around the barn (as my Grandpa used to say) to have Heatshield, have usable sights, and the abilty to have many rds on your Sidesaddle. Just a thought.
