New From Michigan

Post by jirovec »

I am starting a new Rem 870 tactical build (this will be my first build). The main focus of the build will be to reduce the recoil as much as possible as my wife is only 4'10". This will be our home defense shotgun as well as my newest hobby.

I have given myself a $1000 budget and have already used this site to do much of my planning.

Going to start off by buying the Remington 870 Express Tactical w/ Ghost Ring Sights (costs about $535 from what I can find unless anyone can recommend another place to find one cheaper ... only want to buy new though).

Planned upgrades include:
Blackhawk Spec Ops Gen II Stock
Brownells Stainless Steel Follower
Non-MIM Extractor
Wilson Combat Oversized Safety (this is the only one that will work with the Blackhawk stock?!?!)
Mesa Tactical 6 Round Side Saddle
PowerPak Ammo Carrier (not really needed but just a fun add on)
Flashlight (haven't decided what I would like yet as I want ease of use to be able to operate)

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated!!

You may have problems with the safety and the stock. Use the forum search tool. I know my vang camp won't fit with the black hawk stock.

If your wife is that petite, you may want to consider a 20ga instead of the 12. It'll be a lighter, easier-handling gun with far less recoil, but still more than potent enough for defensive work.

I thought about getting a 20ga ... figure if the 12ga doesn't work for her I can always get a 20ga later.

Thanks for the advice!

Do yourself a favor now and save 150$ on the Blackhawk! Recoil reduction stock. It is a piece of shit, from bruised cheek bones from "stock slap" to broken stocks on the first round fired. I would seriously consider the Hydrolic recoil buffer from Enidine. They make great recoil systems for military grade weapons and calibers for the U.S. Military.

I bought a 20 gauge youth model for my wife and she is not much taller than your wife. Gypsy LOVES her shotgun and it is a better option for her than a 12 gauge for all the reasons Synchronizer stated. I already had a Mossy Cruiser, but after seeing her 870 I had to go out and get one of my own.
