Porting?
Porting?
I have a Remington 870 with 18.5" barrel with extended tactical choke tube. Is porting worth it? How much of an effect does it have if it is worth it? Sorry for the abundance of questions but I'm lacking in knowledge and experience at this point and am just trying to gain some.

Re: Porting?
Cost vs. return in my opinion is not worth it. I have a friend with a ported 18.5 and I notice no difference in the kick or rise between his and mine. However, there WAS a noticeable back blast into my face and though it was not painful, it was certainly not comforting. I also think night vision might take a bigger hit with a flash coming out around the side. It looks cool, but cool is not what HD is about.

Re: Porting?
On shotguns, porting is a gimmick, nothing more. Shotguns have too much mass and recoil, and run barrel pressures that are too low for those little holes to do anything to combat muzzle rise. All you'll have with porting is a louder gun and a lighter wallet.
