How to deal with caliber purist.

Post by Okie1297 »

.40 is one of my favorite pistol calibers since I grew up shooting it when I turn 21 I plan to get my CCL while I’m in the army if I’m in a gun friendly state like my home state of Oklahoma. So far my main goal is to get a sig p320 compact in 9mm however a Glock 23, m&p shield in 9 or 40 or a s&w m&p compact in 9 or 40 are my top picks. I have a few friends whenever I bring up liking .40 and wanting to get one when I’m 21 who go off and on about it’s obsolete recoil harder ammo capacity, and how modern ballistics made 9 superior. I like 9 and will probably end up getting one but in the mean time how do I deal with the caliber purist? Also is the g23 a good ccw? Or any pistol that size?

How? You don't follow their guidance as gospel. We all have opinions, reasons and a rationale for what we do, and in the end, you and only you have to live with the decision. I've had and shot many, many 9mms and a 40S&W too. The rage today is a 10mm, but it takes a larger-frame in a handgun. 40S&W was developed to fill a hole or role, and that idea is still valid today. Plus, there is plenty of 40S&W ammo available, at least in my stores. Yea, improvements in 9mm have made that cartridge better, but you only give up one round in a magazine to get a bigger hole with a .40.

My advice? Do what you like. I now have 9's and 40's and I use them as I pick and choose and as I see fit. Tell your buddies to go extrol to virtues of the .30 Super Carry compared to a 22 WMR personal defense round. Get them all confused....

I just punch people into submission but advocating violence is against the TOS around here.

Scorpion8 pretty much covered it.

Oh, don't punch people. It doesn't work and there are way too many assholes. You'll be exhausted before you run out of assholes. :|

Don’t think of them as caliber purist but as parrots. They just repeat what they have read or have seen on YouTube.

I have 9, .40 and .45. I like them all, but it is a SIG P226 in .40 S&W that sits on my nightstand.

The G23 is a good carry gun. It is the same size as the G19, and there are plenty of parrots who will tell you about all the virtues of the G19.

Take care of yourself. I’m not an Okie by birth, but I truly enjoyed the 6 years I lived in Green Country and always love going back. I earned an MBA at OSU during my time there. Go Pokes.
