Eastern Gartersnake, very, very common here in east tn.

And clue me in, poisonous or non-poisonous? Beneficial because they eat rats, toads, zombie corpses?

Totally harmless. They will bite if you push the issue. Supposed to make good pets, if a snake can be a pet. When i first saw it i thought is was one of the dogs ropes they play with and almost picked it up. It struck at me and startled me.
