Hi Everyone
I'm from the Sacramento area, and I just got my first shotgun, the Remington 870 Express Synthetic, this week for home defense. I’m also signed up for a tactical shotgun course this weekend. I’m a little confused about Remington’s serial numbers and naming conventions. The box and Remington web site list this model as the Remington Model 870 Express Synthetic, yet the receiver has Remington 870 Tactical stamped on it with an RS serial number, which according to Vitaly’s Remington Serial Number Lookup indicates the receiver was manufactured in 1998. Is that possible? Is their inventory of new parts really that old? Is the Remington 870 Tactical the old name for the Express Synthetic? Am I misinterpreting something?
Thanks for any input.
Brian

Re: Express Synthetic versus Tactical Name Confusion
Ah, now I understand. I was looking at the first two characters of the serial number on the receiver (in my case RS), when it's really the very small two characters on the barrel (in my case AG, indicating the barrel was stamped in March 2012).
