Hello ladies and gents.
New member and new old pump shotgun owner here.
I inherited a 870 Wingmaster from my father in in-law who passed away some time ago.
I now want to use his gift as a home defense fire arm.
It came with two barrels a long one and a short one. He loved to pheasant and deer hunt.
I believe it was made in the seventies.
Would someone be so kind to confirm this for me?
Here is a photo of the serial number.
Thanks

You have a great day.

What's the serial number on the receiver? The barrel date code in the pic could possibly be AO which would be March, 1977.

The "S" prefix dates the receiver to 1968-1973 time frame. The "V" suffix indicates 2 3/4" shells. Probably the barrel in the first pic was purchased later on. What letters are stamped on the other barrel?

Re: Hello from upstate NY
The nice people at Remington in the historical dept. confirmed for me the month and year of my 870.
It was manufactured September 1970.
This seems right based on a little information gathered from my wife's family.
Cool.
The one thing I learned was that despite the information gleaned from the Internet, the barrel numbers and letters don't really tell the tail. I was told that it is inspectors check marks that the gun is ok.
The real story is from the number on the receiver.
This seems contrary from what I learned from the Internet.
Anyway, good to know.
I finally broke the gun part and gave it a thorough cleaning and oiling.
Everything looks great and is ifine condition.
My next thing is now to take it to a range and get aquatinted with the Ike girl.
