I'm new to the shotgun world, just bought a Remington 870 express 28in barrel for Dove season. This is the only thing I will be using this shotgun for. Then it hit me, why not make it into a HD as well. So the research for a barrel to replace the 28in barrel I has begin. The barrel search has been crazy( What Size Barrel, What shell size, Will a 3'' Chamber barrel shoots 2 3/4,) the 870 has a lot of aftermarket part.

Yes Buddy, it will shoot 2.75. I have the 20' in. Smoothbore, adjustible rifle sighted, improved cylinder barrel myself and I love it. I can shoot slugs, birdshot and buck. It will take anything but sabots(you need a rifled barrel for those). A lot of people like the 18.5' in. barrel and some like interchangeable chokes (mine is fixed). The choice is up to you, but keep it short and no slings. The internet is FULL of information! Shop and ask around? Wish you the best. Just ask if you got a question. You came to the best shotgun sight in my opinion..

870 barrels are pretty straightforward. As long as it's the same gauge (and frame size, for the 20ga), and you're working with standard receivers & barrels, the barrels are all interchangeable. As for chamber length, the barrel can safely handle any shells that are the same length or shorter than its chamber.

For normal HD, a simple fixed-choke, bead-sight, 18 - 20 inch barrel with a 2.75" or 3" chamber is an easy-to-find option that'll drop right onto a hunting gun and make it a solid HD weapon.
