Hey everyone. I'm new at forums and stuff so please bare with me. I did a brief search and didn't find a post exactly about this. I purchased a non MIM extractor for my 870 and using the videos on the rem870 website was able to remove the original extractor and, with some force, install the new one. As inferred it was kinda tight. I put in some dummy rounds and tried to rack them through and the first one kinda half popped out and then the extractor stayed in that "ejection" position and never went back in to grab the next shell. I installed the original extractor so that I still had a working shotgun.
The solution I've come up with is to take a fine grit sand paper and sand it down on the side that seems tight just until it fits and works properly. I haven't done it yet. I wanted to see what you guys had to say before.
I hope I gave you guys enough information to help me out. I'll be glad to answer some more questions or get more specific if it will help.
Thank you in advance.
TLDR: I purchased a new extractor for my 870 and it's snug and after it extracts the first shell it gets stuck sticking out and wont grab the next shell. My thought was to just use some fine grit sand paper and sand it down until it fits properly. Is that ill-advised?

Where did you buy the new extractor from? I've heard that some sources will send out 11-87 extractors, which are thicker than the extractors used by the 870 & 1100.

I bought it from MidwayUSA. But I bought it months ago and hadn't had a chance to work on it until a few weeks ago. So I doubt I can send it back or anything. That's why i was thinking about just sanding it down and trying to fix it myself.

I got mine from Brownells. I had to sand it to fit. BS for such and expensive part. Mine was Remington factory part. It works great now.

72Cheyenne, how did you go about sanding it and making it fit?72Cheyenne wrote:I got mine from Brownells. I had to sand it to fit. BS for such and expensive part. Mine was Remington factory part. It works great now.

Re: Problems with my non MIM extractor not fitting
Even if it was purchased awhile ago, I'd look into returning it. If you can make a case that you got the wrong part, they'll probably at least try to work with you. My concern with sanding the wrong extractor to fit is that there may be other geometrical differences, and the extractor may not function as well as the correct part even after you get it fitted.
