Police Barrel / Tritium sights

OK, new to this shotgun thing. Just picked up a police trade-in 870 Police Magnum. Is there any difference (particularly bore, whether factory-polished or not) between the factory Remington 870 Police barrels, which seam to mostly be rifle sights, and the regular 870 Extra barrels? I'm interested in replacing the 20" rifle sight police barrel on my 870P with an 18.5" parkerized bead sight IC barrel. So, I think I need the F242243 barrel that is listed on Midway USA and Brownells. Is the bead sight threaded / removable on these new factory barrels? Eventually, I want to get into a Tritium Ghost Ring sight setup, so I'll want to replace the front bead on a new barrel.

The Trijicon Tritium rear ghost ring set would need drill & tap I've read. Any other suggestions related to tritium ghost ring rear sights that may be rail mounted maybe? Thinking about the Mesa Tactical 6-shot side saddle with the top rail so it mounts on both sides of the receiver in the trigger set pins. At least that way, I wouldn't need to drill & tap my receiver to mount a sight on the receiver. Just starting to research this stuff really. Already learned a lot browsing around this forum.

I have more to say on the subject, but I'm racing to get a draft of my thesis in for review. For now, I'd recommend downloading and reading Remington's current parts price list. You'll have a much wider selection of barrels to look at there, and you generally pay less for them if you order directly from Remington. See this thread for more information.

Thanks for the link Synchronizer. Very helpful. The parts list is great. Remington's web site absolutely sucks for trying to track down a specific barrel.
