I have been trying to find a good quality heat shield for my 20 ga. 18" Express. I am getting tired of burning my hands when I am at the range.
Please help.

Re: 870 20 ga heat shield
ATI offers a heat shield that's supposed to be a universal fit for shotguns of all gauges. Looks kind of sketchy to me, but at least it's not too expensive.
Have you tried wearing a glove on your off hand? I do that sometimes for high-volume shooting.

Re: 870 20 ga heat shield
The shield that Mossberg sells is the better one that I have used. The problem will heat shields on Remingtons is the tapered barrel. This allows the heat shield to slide forward under recoil and become loose. It is hard to get one to say in place on a Remington without modifying the barrel. The only way I have had any luck is to mount the barrel in lathe and turn a straight spot where the shield mounts. Depending on which fore end you use you may have to trim the top edge of the fore end down to clear the bottom edge of the shield. I also cut the rear "ears" off of the shield due to them hitting the actuation arms on the fore end tube. The only purpose of the "ears" that I can see is to scratch the shit out of the rear of the barrel.
