Hi all!
I shoot alot of lead slugs in door and outdoor ranges. I have a 18.5" Remington barrel with an elevated bead sight and ghost ring in back. I only mention that cause there a couple barrel types Remington makes and not sure what of if ther is a coating like chromium
Lining the inside.
Anyway guys and girls I have tried shotgun cleaners with brush and mops and remove a little. Can someone advise me if there is a different product to "get the lead out?" or if this barrel is the type not good metal to shoot lead slugs.
Thanks all...
Smoker.

Smoker, I really like Shooters' Choice chemicals, like Lead Removersmoker wrote:Hi all!

They really work and make cleaning much easier.

Leaving a good lead solvent in the barrel for 5 mins will go a long way to making less scrubbing. Depends where you are in the world, but most gun shops will have at least a few to choose from. I like the foaming kind myself, but that's probably the kid in me! Then brush brush brush.
On the school guns we'd occasionally treat them to a phosphor bronze brush&solvent with the cleaning rod in a slow speed electric drill, followed by a soft mop with some bore paste. They'd get filthy being workhorses - used all day every day (except Sundays and Christmas), but that would always make the bore like new.

There are a number of good bore cleaners out there. I use Hoppe's, myself. RichNZ is correct that letting a good solvent soak in can save a lot of work.
Soft lead slugs aren't going to do much to the steel of the barrel. If you had a rifled shotgun barrel, leading would be more of an issue with these types of slugs, but a smoothbore barrel shouldn't give you any trouble if you take care of it.smoker wrote:or if this barrel is the type not good metal to shoot lead slugs.
