Re: First 870 build
Cheers, I only got into the colour fill stuff a few months back. I mainly do stock refinishing work. Spent a little time talking to some engravers finding out what they used for fills on signs and other stuff. Been experimenting since but think this stuff is the best for consistence results and it sets solid so doesn't ware off the same. Going to keep with it till I get the technique down right. The prep work seems to be the place to spend the time. The touch up takes a while but if it isn't 100% right before you do a fill it is a bind to sort out
Re: First 870 build
Great job on Magpul furiture. The lettering -color fill job turned out fantastic looking. That yellow paint really stands out, i would have not thought of using yellow, but it really looks good! It will definitely go with the yellow smiley face nicely! Well Done.

Re: First 870 build
JBall, good luck on your go at that lettering-color-fill job. chrismetallicas' technique seems pretty straighforward, let us know how it goes..

Automag wrote:Secondly i'd recommend a Magpul forward sling Point/Bbl Clamp instead of the one you've picked out. Those sling points that mount between the Magazine and Mag Extension can cause feeding problems in an 870 and other problems (even w/o mag Ext.).
chrismetallica1 wrote:Cheers for the info on the forward sling plate. I will give it a go first, I have a couple spare wolf springs in my kit box might make a slightly longer spring and see if that prevents feed issues on the mag with the spacing between the end cap and plate
This was my first thought when I saw that sling plate too. I tried a QD version of that on my gun, and the gap kept causing fail-to-feeds. If you're just running a magazine cap, you can avoid hang-ups by placing the original cup-style 870 follower backward over the front end of the magazine spring, under the cap. This will let the spring stack up and rotate without catching on anything inside the end of the tube.JBall wrote:I'm not sure the spring change will make a difference. The sling plate causes a "gap" in the coupling which allows for the spring to get hung up in it. But good luck!

So far I have orders the following for the 870. Let me know if I have missed anything good![]()
Plus got a happy cap and did a colour fill job as well
Think I'm about spent through my bonus when I add the gun cost on topWill be worth it though
Wanted one of the Molon Labe forends in black from Tiana's tactical on Ebay but they don't post to UK
Would you mind listing the parts (make/model# etc).
I am brand new to this, and this is educational.
Thank you.

Re: First 870 build
The furniture is Magpul, The shot shell carriers are Mesa tactical, the sling adapter is also magpul, The front sling plate is SJ hardware also is the mag follower and the jumbo safety. The sight is XS big dot and the Happy cap is made by happy cap. Just finished the forend today with some rails and an AFG2. Got a call yesterday, 8 to 10 week delay on the gun, you guys in the us must still be buying like crazy. I changed my order on the breeching choke to a Trulock breacher as it is rated for slug as wells as buck and bird shot

The Carlson's breacher choke you originally showed also has a cylinder constriction; you can shoot anything through it.chrismetallica1 wrote:I changed my order on the breeching choke to a Trulock breacher as it is rated for slug as wells as buck and bird shot

Wow! That Magpul Fore end looks fantastic, as does the SGA Stock. You've got skills, for sure. I'm anxious to see how it all looks when assembled.
