Another thought is to peruse your back country gun shops and see if you can find an old Eastern Arms single shot. There were many made, and they show up all the time. Nobody would bat an eye if you cut the barrel down to your preferred length.

Decided to get a Savage Stevens 301 Turkey 410. Turkeys wander through here now and again and I just may try it on squirrels. Nothing fancy, but it looks like a fun little gun.
