When I mounted the AFG2 on the Magpul foregrip I found that I wanted it further back than the slots on the foregrip allowed. So I pulled out my drill, and added another small hole. When I shot this the first time I had the Streamlight on the left side. The recoil left a blood blister on the tip of my thumb. The bigger slugs stung my front finger with the front of the AFG2. I am hoping that the reduced recoil slugs will work better. If not I will call it a lesson learned. I may just trying move it to my .308 rifle if I'm not happy.
The GG&G side saddle is a quality piece of equipment. I love the ease of loading with it. The unit has good solid shell detents. It also has a rubber base so it won't mark the finish on the receiver. I also liked the lightened look and flat black finish.
My logic on the sights & rail was that the laser was to be set up for shot in the house, and the backup sights were to be set up for slugs outside the house. I knew that the farther the front and rear sight were apart the more accurate the sights would be. I however was not big on anything that clamps to the shotgun. The best match for what I wanted was this 9" rail.
As for the magazine cap it looks like it will work after all. I did upgrade my magazine spring and follower. I haven't had any feed problems. I have a non-MIM extractor that I still need to install. I'm pretty happy with the setup. I plan to do a little polishing to smooth things up in the future. I worked as a paintball guntech for about five years when I was younger. I even have done some sweet trigger work on my 10/22. When comes to firearms I'm a novice. I have owned the 10/22 for many years, but bought the 870 & the FNH FNAR this fall. I figured I had to do these before the right to do it was lost. I am a U.S. Air Force veteran, and I only recently shot my first centerfire rifle cartridge. As of age 43 I had only shot 12ga. 3 shots, about 12 shots out of a coworker's .44 revolver & some quantities of .22LR. So by no means do I represent myself as anything but an amateur firearms person.
On a side note while I may have only shot .22LR through an M-16; it was more than an AR-15.

Re: Bought my first shotgun this fall
spsreef, did you use the Magpul Polymer rail to connect the AFG to the bottom of the forend? If so, which size, 11 slot? I just bought mine and installed it but because of the hole differential you mentioned, I just slid my AFG back. I don't like that and I will likely follow your lead and drill a new hole in bottom of forend.
Also, did you try the different insert in the AFG? Thanks.

Here are a few photos of my Remington 870 with the Magpul forend and Magpul AFG2 which is not connected the way I want but oddly enough it is attached very solidly (is that a word?). Let me know how you connected yours. Thanks. Mac
