Hmm...that doesn't make much sense. According to the "Model 870 & 870 Super Magnum Owner's Manual" for my one week old 870 express tactical, on pg.9 "NOTE: All Model 870 12-guage barrels are interchangeable without adjustment, except the Model 870 12-guage Super Magnum and Model 970 12-guage Special Field". Also, according to the parts break down on pg.16 it shows a one piece magazine for all 870 models.reuliss wrote:And here is the official word from Remington:
"Thank you for contacting Remingon. Based on what you have described the 870 tactical that you purchased has the "One piece" magazine tube. If that is the case then there is no sporting grade barrel that will fit the configuration of your shotgun. The "One piece" magazine was introduced recently to insure smooth loading and cycling of shells in increased magazine capaazine city guns."
I'm not real impressed with remington right now...their customer service is very poor so far...and my gun is only a week old...but, that's a story for another topic.
My guess is that the parts that nugunner01 described needed to convert from tactical to a different configuration would work. If not I'll be highly dissapointed because I bought my 870 tactical with plans to swap out the barrel in order to do some hunting.
Good luck!
