Discuss all accessories and upgrades available for the Remington 870 shotgun: stocks, forends, barrels, chokes, magazine extensions, followers, safeties, sights etc.

12 & 20ga 870s use different slide and breech bolt assemblies, but the extractors are the same.
Really though, there's nothing wrong with MIM extractors. The machined extractor is $15 worth of peace of mind for a lot of folks (plus, then the old one is there as as a backup), but if you're not actually having trouble with your MIM extractor, your gun won't be inferior for having one.

from tank rifle shop
"Remington has made two different types of 20ga shotguns over the years. Early model 20ga shotguns were made on 12ga receivers and will accept most but not all 12ga accessories. The LT-20 model shotgun is made on a smaller receiver and will accept the accessories listed on this page.
To determine which vintage you have if you are unsure, look at the serial number. With 20ga shotguns built on 12ga receivers the serial number will end with either a X or N."
What about the trigger group on the newer model 20's?
Will that accept the standard 870 safety button?
I do believe that I saw S&J hardware selling 20ga delrin followers: http://sjhardware.com/store/modules.php ... cts_id=313
It seems to be a trend I am seeing. I am currently trying to get some parts to help a good friend build on a 20ga that he got his girlfriend last year. She can shoot the hell out of that thing!
All 870s use the same size safety buttons. I wouldn't consider a big-head safety button a must-have upgrade, though. A standard flush button has its own advantages, and in a lot of cases it can be manipulated just as quickly. Practice is the best way to determine if an aftermarket safety would really be a worthwhile change.
Maybe the 20 gauge is catching on: Hogue has recently introduced a 20 gauge 12" LOP stock and CDM Gear is introducing a 20 gauge light mount. Now if someone would make a 20-gauge version of this barrel, my joy would be complete.
Remington makes a 20-inch 20ga rifle-sight barrel with a fixed IC choke. They also offer 18.5" cylinder-bore bead-sight barrels and 18.75" Rem Choke vent-rib barrels. Any of those would be great for a 20ga HD/combat build.
