That's a neat idea. How hard was it to shape the cut? What tools did you use?

It was easy, to cut & shape the hole , it only took about thirty minutes .
I pulled the fore end all the way back until it stopped and measured from the end of the fore end to the front of the port , which measured about 1- 1/2" . the fore end has a seam in the middle of it so it was easy to find the center of the hole.
take your time measuring & be sure before you start cutting .
after you are sure of your measurements TAKE THE SLIDE OFF THE SHOTGUN & THEN TAKE THE FORE END OFF THE METAL SLIDE COMPLETLY . I held it with one hand & drilled & cut the fore end but you could use a vice if you wanted too. the fore end is fiberglass & is easy to cut.
I used a one inch hole saw to make a 1- 1/8" hole , a 24 volt battery operated drill , a hack saw with 32 teeth per inch to cut out the remainder of the hole ( which were basically two straight cuts ) and a fine file to clean up the straight cuts & remove the sharp edges left by the cutting process & to shape the hole to my satisfaction .
by the time I had it like I wanted it the hole ended up being right at 1- 1/4" wide which worked out really well.
