NEW 20ga. light mount for Remington 870

Post by CDM Gear »

We're getting ready to make these this month for 20ga. Remington shotguns. We took a lot of input from people on what they wanted and I think it turned out well. Basically it's a no tools install. Just take the mag cap off and slide this on. It's also made to grip the barrel lug so it's not all floppy like sling plates. We're machining them out of 6061-T6 billet and hard coat anodizing the unit. You can use these with the factory cap or an extension because they have a detent built in as well. The popular request was the sling mount position. Many people wanted it on the same side as their light, so we made it work. You can mount the sling in the front or rear but it sits at a 45 degree angle so it's good for side or bottom position slings. Should be in the $35 to $40 range. Looks like an interesting concept, though I do have a couple questions.

What type of detent does it use? Is it a proper spring-loaded detent, or just a staked-in ball?

Also, how much of the barrel guide ring does this cover? A lot of 870 fore-ends cover up the guide ring when they're all the way forward, and may have to be modified to work with this mount.

I use manufactured ball detents, not staked. They are a one piece unit and replaceable. I bought an 870 20ga. to take measurements from. All it takes is a small area to limit rotation and that is covered. Rotation is mostly limited by the barrel but we use the extra meat in the mount to give it a little extra. The fore-end does take up a majority of the space on the barrel lug but as long as the mount has a little purchase on the lug it's going to do it's job and it's a redundancy any way when it comes to rotation. The main purpose of the thickness is for stability, especially when you compare it just a plate.
