Even though sling mounts are not a high priority as my 870 build is primarily a utilitarian HD build, I may add some mount points at a later date, based on a 2-point setup. I replaced the synthetic police stock with a Magpul SGA, and I'm really happy with the results. I got the LOP I like with just one spacer for an overall 13" LOP. I lost my sling mount points when I replaced the Police stock and put a Nordic Components +3 mag extension on. (the factory Remington Police magazine end cap had a swivel sling point on it). On my Nordic barrel clamp, I have a P-rail I'll be using for my Streamlight TLR-1 HL. I shoot right handed, so I have the rail on the left side for now. Adding a swivel QD point on the Magpul stock is a no brainer...it has a mounting point for that. To add a QD sling point on the front, I was looking at the GG&G Rem 870 QD Front Sling Mount w/Heavy Duty Swivel. If I wanted to go with a 1-point setup, it's easy enough to add Magpul's receiver-mounted sling point.
Question is, should I have any concerns with the GG&G QD front sling attachment adding a slight amount of space between the mag tube and the Nordic extension, since it threads on the magazine tube behind the extension mag coupler? I'm not really interested in adding any more barrel clamps, tri-rails, ect just to gain one mount point for a sling. I thought the GG&G (or similar, better brand?) was the least obtrusive option to obtain a front QD point while adding the least amount of weight.

Sorry, but I don't use a sling for HD. I don't want to get hung up on shelves, door knobs, furniture, etc. Yes, this does not allow for a "switch to handgun" drill, but so be it.
Good luck with your query about the specifics of your set up!
Certainly, in a class I took the expectation was that all shotguns would have a sling. For that, I added a "single point" where the shotgun would be pointed straight down between my planted feet... And on the day of the class I was informed that all slung shotguns had so point straight up!

Re: Front QD swivel sling mount options
I have one of those GG&G under-cap/extension sling plates with the QD sling attachment, and I really wouldn't recommend it. The push-button action is a good concept; it's very secure and easy to use, and there's a clever shape to the hole it goes into that keeps it from rotating too far and tangling the sling, but it's the plate that fits between the extension and guide ring where this fails.
The least of its issues was that the radius that locks against the barrel was too small, I had to file it to fit and then fix the finish. Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing - it lets you get a precise and solid fit to your specific barrel - but I have a bunch of barrels with different profiles, so even after fitting, it would be loose on all but my thickest barrel.
Also, it has a detent ball staked into the plate that's supposed to lock down the magazine cap or extension like the locking detent in the barrel guide ring. But unlike the spring-loaded detent Remington installs in their barrels, this is a hardened steel ball that simply lodges between the guide ring and the cap/extension. With the sling plate in place, I had to use a pair of channel-lock pliers to install and remove my extensions, I couldn't get it tight enough or break it loose by hand. That detent ball also gouged the softer steel of my extension coupling, and I'm pretty sure I tweaked the guide ring on one of my barrels trying to get the extension tightened.
But the biggest issue is that the sling plate was just too darn thick - way thicker than it needs to be, structurally. It took up so much space in front of the barrel guide ring that I could barely get my Remington extension coupling onto the remaining magazine tube thread, resulting in more stress and wear on those last few turns. Then, there wasn't enough thread on the extension tubes to make up the difference, and a gap was left inside the magazine that kept causing hang-ups and feed malfunctions. You may not have those same hang-ups with your Nordic extension, but you'll still have the weakened joint.
Other minor things are that the thing has "GG&G" printed on it (a personal turn-off), and that it has no allowance for vertical installation to match up with the bottom-mounted sling attachment points that most stocks have.
If you want a QD sling plate, I would suggest looking elsewhere. You may be better off with a QD sling attachment that installs on the rail on your barrel clamp, or getting a different clamp with an integral QD swivel point. I believe CDM offers those.

Re: Front QD swivel sling mount options
Thanks for the Reply. You confirmed the concerns I had. I was a bit hesitant with the concept of the design and how it mounts up. That CDM BMT clamp looks like a really nice unit. I may go that route if I decide to setup QD points. I highly doubt I would care for the light being on the right side..probably too awkward to engage the switches with my support hand, otherwise I would just add a QD plate to my existing Nordic clamp.Synchronizor wrote:I have one of those GG&G under-cap/extension sling plates with the QD sling attachment, and I really wouldn't recommend it.
