Just got done polishing my bolt...only took 60 min!

Post by ZeppoFan68 »

Just polished this puppy up and was wondering what I could do to prevent rust (beside regular cleaning,dehumidifier,etc.)...I doubt any kind of clear coat or urethane-type coating would work...opinions?

Cerakote makes a clear coat as does duracoat. I would be careful when coating though considering internal tolerances.

I have done a few. Just keep it oiled.
Don't buy it if you can't sell it.

Check out Froglube. If applied properly and after about three applications you may never have to worry about rust. I just ordered some. From all I have read and viewed it is a real deal.

Your favorite oil should do nicely. That's all i've ever put on muzzle, and bare metal there get's a whole lot more crud than the bolt.

Nice job on polishing the bolt. I've done the same with some of my 1911 bolts with good success and like the others said, I keep it oiled (lightly). Looks nice! Did u use a dremmel and buffing wheel and maybe polishing compound? Cool.

I'd just keep it oiled.
