Anyone familiar with the Speedfeed Mk IV and MK IV-S stocks?

I have the IV on my 870, works great but the LOP is a bit long for me. I am planning on switching to the IV-S, but it seems that the IV-S is only an inch shorter.... not a huge difference. I like the Houge shorty stock, but prefer a full pistol grip. If anyone could please post pics of both stocks side by side I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm afraid I don't have any pictures to post (not much for pistol-grip stocks, personally), but have you tried handling your current SF-IV with the recoil pad taken off? I believe SpeedFeed's recoil pads are more-or-less an inch thick, so if you take the pad off your 14" LoP stock, it should give you a better idea of how the 13" version will fit. You could even try shooting it that way, if you cut up an old bath towel and duct tape a couple layers of the fabric onto the butt, or just bring an ice pack and your man card.

I've also heard of people shortening their SpeedFeed synthetic stocks and fitting a new recoil pad. Apparently at least some are thick-walled enough to make that feasible.

Have you considered going with a different brand of stock? The length of pull on the Speedfeed MK IV-S is 13". Mesa Tactical makes a stock for the 870 and various other shotguns called the Urbino, which has a length of pull of 12.5". Not much shorter than the MK IV-S, but it's about as short as you're going to get with a fixed stock.

No, just an image that I found on Google. Just trying to give the poster ideas for an alternative stock if the Speedfeed stocks are too long. That Urbino stock is available with or without the cheek riser and also with or without the recoil pad.

If you do like the Urbino, the basic model (w/o cheekriser) is about 114.00 bucks. Theres not any real difference between basic and the cheekriser model in functionality. The only real benefit with the more expensive Urbino kit is, well obviously the adjutable cheekriser and the ability to mount Mesa shellholders to the rear of the stock, and some come with the single point Reciever sling adapter as well. I believe both models include the Limbsaver buttpads as standard. I just wanted to inform you that the basic Mesa Urbino stock is'nt overly expensive. and it's a great pistol grip stock.

I can pick up an IVS for less than $80. I am trying to keep this project as cheap as possible, and I still have several more parts to install. Plus I'm just a penny pincher anyway:)
