It has an 18 1/2" barrel similar to yours and Turns out I can take the barrel off of my 870 and put it on with a spacer that I made that fits over the mag between the nut and the ring, works great. I also shoot trap with it just for fun and does just fine.
interesting, what did you use for a spacer? any pics?

Like Vitaly said, you will not be let down by that full length mag tube. I'm actually pretty disappointed my tactical came with the mag extension. I live north of the border so i may have to wait a while until the new stock makes its way here

Hey so, another stupid question here, I just bought some ammo for the first time, and was just testing out everything (loading in ammo, cycling it, ejections, etc) and can only fit 6 (2 3/4") shells into the magazine. I realize that with one in the chamber, thats a total capactiy of 7, but I was previously under the impression that the mag was suppose to hold 7 shells, and the one in the chamber would be extra. Is that not the case with these models? or should I expect some break-in time?

No that's just the way it is. that is if it's an +2 extension.

You should only be able to hold 6+1.

Ammo capacity for shotguns include the chamber; a 5-shot gun would be 4+1, for example. The long-mag-tube 870s like yours will hold 6 standard shells in the magazine, plus one in the chamber for a total of 7. If you want more capacity, you can put magazine extensions on those guns just like a standard 870; the tube is longer, but the attachment system is identical (you may need to use a different mag spring, but those are cheap). A +1 will fit fairly well, while a +2 or longer extension will extend significantly past the muzzle, which isn't great for a defensive shotgun.

Greetings Benjammin and welcome to the board. You will not be disappointed. Lots of great people here with tons of experience willing to help. Don't worry about any question you may feel is stupid. I have asked a few and have been treated with respect and courtesy. Ask what you may, and someone will respond.

I have an 870 tactical with the long magazine just like yours and I LOVE IT!! It was the exact shotgun I wanted. There is the drawpack of only one barrel fitting so you cannot make it a multi-use weapon, but it gives you the excuse to go buy another one. Try the "Honey, I really need this one too" approach and see what she says.
