I live in Northern California, and have owned an 870 Express 12g and 20g for about four years.
I intended the 12g for general use, a little trap and sporting clay shooting, possible HD, possible hunting. The 20g was purchased with the same uses in mind for the three women in my family (not much luck on that front so far, but I'll keep at it).
I purchased a Rem factory 18.5" barrel for each gun with HD in mind, plus cheap lights and clamps. No other significant mods.
Now a local gun club is going to offer 3-gun matches (also called multigun), so I am reading up on modding the 12g for this use. (There is a 3-gun class, sometimes called Heavy Metal, which uses pump shotguns). See http://www.3gunrules.com/ for bacgkround information.
Do any of you have experience with 3-gun matches, and modding 870s for that purpose?
Also, Vitally, I have a specific question for you. In your pics of mag extensions (Nordic Components, Choate, etc.) you show them mounted under a barrel with rifle sights. What is the model and length of that barrel? What kind of chokes/bore does it have?
I ask because the ideal 3-gun barrel, according to some, would be about 20", rifle sights, with interchangeable chokes. The closest I can see from Remington is part# 24545, Wingmaster 20" Deer Barrel with Rifle Sights and Rem Chokes. The only drawback with that, from my perspective, is that it seems to only come in blued steel which would not match the matte black on my Express.
New from Northern California; Any 3-gun shooters?

I am IPSC shooter and sometimes we have 3-gun matches.
Possible upgrades for the competitions are:
1. Bigger safety button.
2. Enhanced follower.
3. Magazine extension, I have one which is longer than the barrel, it doesn't look good but enables me to have 8+1 shells one the start.
4. Light-gathering sights.
5. Sidesaddle, good if you need to load one-two shells fast.
6. Stock which will be comfortable for you.
I have bought Remington 870 Express Deergun with rifle sights but without interchangeable chokes, it has fixed Cylinder choke. It is very nice shotgun and if you install +3 extension it will be ok and won't stick out. But if you use +4 or +5 magazine extension to have the maximum allowed number of shells on the start it will look like this:

I have Nordic Components magazine extension which consists of three parts. That means that I have +5 magazine tube for competitions and +3 magazine tube for home defense.
