870 Storage in High Humidity — What Should I Check First?

Post by amonggame »

I recently started paying more attention to humidity during storage of my Remington 870. The storage area is usually around 65–75% relative humidity, and after several weeks I noticed a very light surface discoloration on a few exposed metal areas, although there is no visible pitting or damage.

For those who regularly store an 870 in a humid climate, what inspection points do you consider most important after long-term storage? I’m particularly interested in how often you check the exterior metal, bore condition, and other accessible areas, and what humidity level you consider a reasonable target for storage.

I’m looking for practical experience rather than a specific product recommendation. If you have a simple inspection or maintenance routine that has worked reliably over several months, I’d appreciate hearing about it.
