870 20 gauge will not reset trigger…

Hello all, new to this forum. Thought I knew all about the 870. Apparently not. My old 870, 20 gauge will not lock up and reset the trigger. Now, this 870 has seen considerable use over the years. Put a round in the chamber, point in a safe direction and the trigger is soft. Like it is not locking up the round in the chamber. With an empty magazine and nothing in he shotgun at all it should lock up into a firing situation when slide is pulled straight forward. At this time the small lever on the trigger assembly should be pressed to unlock the mechanism. But, this is not the case. Have been shooting Remington 870’s for nearly 50 years. Again, I thought I knew all about the firing mechanism. Guess not. So, I am throwing his out to this forum for advice. Thank you in advance for any and all information. MTG

When you post look for the 2 tabs "Options" and "Attachments" just below the box for typing your reply.

Select Attachments, Click "Add files"

I usually select "Place inline"

Fixed it! Fore end nut that secures the wood to the slide assembly came loose. Four complete turns to tighten and all works as designed. MTG
