Remington 870 malfunction

Post by leonardshelton »

Hello,
I have a 2012 Remington 870 that's been giving me an issue with heavier loads. Whenever I fire them, the action tends to open on its own and the bolt appears to move rearward instead of staying fully forward and locked during firing.

Has anyone experienced something similar or know what might be causing this? It's making me hesitant to keep using the shotgun until I understand what's going on. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Could you upload some before and after photos? This does look like it could be a serious problem.

My experience with such occurrences is that the shooter is usually pulling back on the forend in an attempt to get a snugger shoulder mount. Pulling on the forend of course starts to unlock the action. The 870 has to be held either neutral or pushing away from the shoulder.
