1963 20 ga. 870 Wingmaster barrel

Post by Ducks »

I have the opportunity to buy a 20 gauge Wingmaster barrel made in 1963. A quarter fits through the barrel mounting tube. Will it fit a standard frame 20 gauge 870 made in 1976?

The 20ga 870 switched to the LW (light weight) receiver in 1972. So if yours was made in 1976, it shouldn't fit.

That's a classic Wingmaster! Finding parts that match perfectly across years can be tricky. The quarter test sounds like you're checking the receiver extension diameter. I'm no gunsmith, but it reminds me of trying to perfectly align jumps in Snow Rider. Misalignment in the game means a crash, just like a bad fit with your 870. Hopefully someone with direct experience fitting older Wingmaster barrels to newer 870s can chime in.
