Hello All
My question is in regard to a cantilevered barrel with scope on an 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge Magnum. Rifled barrel. Some folks who have never seen one said the flexibility of it keeps it from being accurate and maintaining zero. Other companies have them. Looking to get one. Many thanks.

Re: Accuracy of cantilevered barrel with scope
Hey there!
A cantilevered barrel with a scope on a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12-gauge Magnum—especially a rifled barrel—can absolutely be accurate and maintain zero. The cantilever mount is attached directly to the barrel, which helps keep the optic and barrel as a single unit. This design is especially useful for pump-action shotguns like the 870, where a receiver-mounted scope could lose zero due to the movement of the action.

Re: Accuracy of cantilevered barrel with scope
I run my 870 as the only gun in the safe with iron sights with a 18" smooth slug barrel. It's the bad weather gun and most versatile smoke pole to run. Any good day I've got a BLR, but the 870 is the better bad weather day brush gun.
Re: Accuracy of cantilevered barrel with scope
I've heard the same concerns about cantilevered barrels affecting accuracy, but from my experience, it's all about proper mounting and a solid connection. Have you checked if the barrel fit is tight and secure in the receiver? If there’s too much flex or play, that could throw off your zero. That said, I’ve seen some setups perform just fine with high-quality optics and proper bedding.
