Howdy Folks, hope y'all are doing well.

Picked up my new 870 on Saturday, joined this forum on Sunday, now waiting for my R&G club to lift its/our COVID19 prohibition on using the outdoor ranges. (Welcome the Pandemonium  - oh well, better safe than sorry)

Started out searching for a used coach gun (20Ga), evolved into buying a NIB 12ga 870 Express Field & Home (28" & 18.5" barrels, wood furniture). Too pretty to tactical-ize, though considering a +2 extension to the magazine. ;)

That's pretty much it, as I fade into lurker mode. Y'all be healthy.

Thanks Scorpion8r.

... Back '64, Dad gave me a 20ga pump shotgun when I got my first hunting license, several decades ago -- got my first pheasant with it. As my boys grew up each of them in turn used that shotgun for hunting, target, clay. That shotgun always worked very well for us. And each boy added something to the gun: Sling swivels, recoil pad, carry case, ...

But as with many folks, Life happened, the boys grew up, moved out, and each opted for 12g, so the ol' 20ga was stored in a place of safety. A short while ago I picked up my new 870, and remembered the old 20ga in the back of the security cabinet, so I brought it out: Remington 870 Wingmaster, 20 Ga. (Whaddaya know -- Dad did like me after all ;) )

Since then I have been looking into what information the serial # could provide, just 6 numbers followed by 'X': nnnnnnX. I'm fairly certain Dad picked it up used, so its manufacture date is early '60's.

Think I will look into some of the other threads.

A vintage Wingmaster is a treasure for sure, as well as the memories that it created. Look around and stay awhile.

Heard back from Remington about my old Wingmaster
Remington Support wrote: According to the serial number, this 870 Wingmaster was manufactured in 1954. This is a large frame 20 gauge, meaning it was built on a 12 gauge platform. Today's 20 gauges are built on a smaller LT frame.
Does that mean locating a rifled barrel will be more or less difficult?
