Whatever sling one chooses, make sure the buckles or whatever arent prone to getting stuck between front of slide and barrel ring. Especially for a weapon as opposed to a hunting gun.

One of my shotguns wear an old modified cotton web M1 Garand sling. All of thr metal is removed except the buckle that forms the loop on the buttstock end. The free end has the metal end cut off and the end folded over and sewn to the swivel on the magazine cap.

I don’t shoot with the sling on the gun. I only use a carry strap on the shotgun to carry it to the turkey woods or duck blind while my hands are full of decoys.
So I make my carry straps from the same nylon strapping I use for back packing and two Uncle Mikes swivels. After the decoys are set the strap comes off when I load the gun.

My section of Pennsylvania is pretty much the same way.
