barrel question(new gun owner)

Post by fishfreeordie »

hello all'
Im new to forums and a new gun owner as well. first time for every thing i guess.i recently purchased a Remington 870 srs magnum, as i was informed upon purchasing this gun it has a rifled barrel for slugs. i was wondering if they sell a barrel that i can buy for it that is compatible with birdshot and other shots besides just slug. ive heard people on line say that they interchange barrels in between seasons but the side of the gun says "special purpose" so i was unsure if its possible. any help would really be appreciated! thanks!! :D :D

Yep, you can purchase a smooth bore barrel that'll shoot anything. With a smooth bore, you can shoot rifled slugs, birdshot, buckshot, whatever. With the rifled barrel, you won't want to shoot rifled slugs or bird- and buckshot, as they can damage the rifling.

Stick your finger in the barrel... if its smooth its a smooth bore, if has edges called rifling then its Rifled.
