ATI fluted magazine too big for barrel clamps
I recently bought an ATI fluted magazine extension for my Remington 870 Wingmaster. The diameter of the magazine extension is 1.25 versus 1 in barrel diameter. I cannot find any Barrel clamps anywhere from any manufacturer that will fit on the 1.25 inch extension. What I would like to do is have Picatinny rails on the top and on the front so that I can mount a holographic sight on the top of Red Dot or Green Dot laser on the front as well as a flashlight on the front. But like I said I cannot find any Barrel clamps that will fit around that ATI fluted magazine extension. Does anybody have any ideas on how to mount Picatinny rails on that magazine extension? Just yesterday I found a product from Black Aces. It is a full length picatinny rail with a heat shield with a quad rail at the front but I'm just worried about ordering it because I'm not sure that my magazine extension will fit in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're determined to use the BAT rail, you may have to ditch your existing mag extension and get another brand or another ATI model.
call or email black aces tactical and ask if their rail will fit your existing setup. They should be able to answer that easily enough.

I have the Black Aces rail on my 870, but with the factory mag tube extension. They have been a good company to deal with if you have questions and such.

Yeah, pretty much all clamp-on accessories for 12ga 870s are designed around the standard 1" outer mag tube diameter. Unless you have something custom-made, you're probably out of luck with that extension. A possible alternative to the Black Aces setup (which is something I would only recommend on a range-toy gun, anyway) would be a fore-end with rail sections to mount a light and laser. For the optic, you can get saddle mounts or rail sections that just mount to the receiver, and don't require anything to be clamped to the extension or barrel.

I agree with everything said here. I’ve been happy with the Magpul forend on my buddy’s 590. With the Mlock you can add stuff. I just fit a Magpul to my ShockWave with the Black aces rail, but haven’t shot it yet. If you’re handy with a grinder, you could fit the Black Aces rail pretty easily, just open the bottom section to fit your oversized mag extensionSynchronizor wrote:Yeah, pretty much all clamp-on accessories for 12ga 870s are designed around the standard 1" outer mag tube diameter. Re: ATI fluted magazine too big for barrel clamps
Thanks for the input. I really dont want accessories on my fore end. I want them to not move but be stable in one spot. I just ordered a Black Aces Tactical rail system and they have assured me that their product will fit around my mag extension. I guess I'll see as soon as it gets here. I really dont want to have to get a different mag extension. I love the look of th ATI fluted mag with stand off cap. Also....will the stand off cap come off so i can swith between a swivel end cap. Looks like it will but ive tried and either im not trying hard enough or it wont come off.
