Anyone have experience,and/or success sourcing slightly roomier, taller magazine caps from another firearm (model 11,for example)...
I'm sure many have experienced only needing another 1/4" or,so of magazine space for another round. I've noticed many 2-3/4" shells
vary in length from each other. Even 1/10" adds up quickly.... Considered getting a +1 extension. I dislike mag tube sticking out past barrel.
I only need another 1/2" of room, but can live with it the way it is if need be. Thanks, Tom (1slow96)

Re: Taller magazine caps?
Well, what you're describing pretty much just sounds like a +1 extension. Yes, mag caps vary somewhat, but I'm not sure you're going to get enough extra space out of one to reliably fit a fifth shell. +1 extensions aren't terribly expensive, are generally easier to get to run reliably than longer kits, and get you that fifth shell without crushing your spring to the limit or requiring you to fiddle with your ammo or other magazine parts. They're also generally designed to match up with 14" barrels, making them significantly shorter than even +2 extensions, and really not much longer than a magazine cap. You mentioned in another thread that your 870 is a 7+1 Police model, which should have a 20" barrel if it's still in its factory configuration. A +1 extension won't come anywhere near the muzzle on that barrel.
If you're really set against installing an extension, go ahead and play with caps, but don't expect anything but very minor differences. Removing the spring retainer (if your gun has one), playing with the spring, and using a space-efficient cup-style follower are other ways to squeeze a bit more usable capacity out of a standard-length mag tube.

Re: Taller magazine caps?
Believe it's actually a 6+1 mag tube, but 7 dummy rounds did fit (barely)... Suspect they a wee bit shorter than other (real) rounds. Though I've noticed they to often vary in length... Thanks for the response. The plastic cap w/dimples is convenient, and not sure if I want to sacrifice it for one more round. Probably would on a four round mag,but then I'd be adding two..

Re: Taller magazine caps?
Is it one of the 870s with the single-piece 6-round mag tube? Because if so, it's not a Police model.
