Hi all,im new to this forum ,im a 32 year old guy who lives in New Zealand ,i play poker with my buddies, ride a body board ,and shoot stuff when ever i can ,i have joined the forum as i have just added a new 870 to my safe and need some advice on how to turn it into an HD/defense gun,i'll give a quick run down just so someone can maybe point me in the right direction before i start a new thread .
Here goes ,i have owned Factory Tactical 870's before but this time i want to kinda build one,
i just bought a mint second hand wood furniture 870 express with 28" vent rib barrel, now i want to add a factory remington mag extension preferably 3 shot ,but if i cut down my vent rib barrel ,will the muzzle meet the end of the extension,(i mean will i be able to cut the barrel at a vent rib post and have it meet a 2 or 3 shot Remington factory extension.
sorry for the novel ,i look forward to replies and also looking forward to roaming the forum ,
Thanks in advance guys and gals ,and excuse my horrible grammar

Welcome to the forum my Brother!
There are a whole lotta knowledgable folks here so you're sure to get some great advice for building an 870 for HD.
As for me, I started out with an 870 Police Magnum. It came with an 18.5 inch barrel (IC choke) and has the XS low-profile rifle sights. GREAT gun right out of the box.
I added a Tacstar side saddle (6 round), a sling, and a Remington ("Speedfeed") 870 "Youth" stock (13" LOP).
The youth stock was a great addition as it allows me to shoot from a more "squared up" stance.
I didn't add a whole lot of bells and whistles as I agree with those who maintain that it's best to keep your 870 as simple as possible.
The only other thing I'm considering is picking up an 870 barrel with the adjustable rifle sights as this will give me more accuracy on the farther slug shots (but will probably sacrifice a little speed on closer targets).
Keep us posted on your new 870 build and post some pics!
All the best to you our New Zealander brother,
Chris
