870 recoil pads?
870 recoil pads?
Shoulder hurting after many rounds (hate getting older). Looking to reduce recoil. Remington Supercell Pad or Limbsaver Airtech Pad? Do any of these work well and if so, how much difference will I notice? Pro's and Con's of each?

Re: 870 recoil pads?
I've only used the SuperCell pad, but I really like it. It's a huge improvement over the older rubber units, it's very easy to install since it's pre-fit, and it doesn't cost much. Remington doesn't make versions to fit every stock out there though, so if you have an older, uncommon, or aftermarket stock, you may need to look at pre-fit pads from other brands, or have a pad fitted.
Re: 870 recoil pads?
I got a Remington recoil pad ,which is softer than factory one that came on my 870 Tactical. I think i got from Brownells. Much softer on shoulder .
Re: 870 recoil pads?
OP,
I am in my '60s and want to make the 870 as pleasant to shoot as possible for the kids and girls even with the Federal 3" MAG #4 buckshot FliteControl loads that work so well on varmints/predators/etc. Was looking for an OEM Remington R3 LimbSaver pad for an 870 Tactical 81198. Brownells sells the LimbSaver 10101 Precision Fit pad, the REM Supercell, but not the REM R3 LimbSaver pads. After researching it a bit, it appeared that there are several different R3 pads for different wood/synthetic stock applications. Could not find the correct R3 pad (REM p/n F300820 best I could tell) except thru Remington so just bought a LimbSaver 10101 from Brownells. It is an exact drop-in replacement for the factory REM pad the 870 model 81198 shotgun came with. I have no experience with the Supercell but now have LimbSaver pads on probably 6-8 very heavy recoiling .45/70 rifles/3" & 3.5" 12GA. shotguns. They work very well. HTH
EDIT: The LimbSaver 10101 Precision Fit recoil pad is also an exact drop-in fit on the Magpul SGA OEM Butt-Pad Adapter (MAG318-BLK).
